First Church to host workshop: Communicating in spite of our differences

The First Church in Sterling will host an interactive workshop, “Communicating in Spite of our Differences,” on Wednesday Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. in the Parish Hall (handicapped accessible).

The program will be led by the Rev. Parisa Parsa, Executive Director of Essential Partners, an organization that helps facilitate difficult conversations and equip people with the skills of dialogue. Parsa has served as a Unitarian parish minister and in leadership roles for faithbased and social service organizations across the country.

“No matter how firmly we believe in a common core of humanity among us, it has become impossible to ignore the differences that are challenging – whether they are political, religious, racial or experiential,” said Parsa of the program. “How do we hold on to our own deep convictions while also connecting with our neighbors who believe, live and act in ways that are challenging to our world view? In this interactive workshop, we will practice some skills for engaging to build understanding even when we can’t reach agreement.”

Part of the Eat/Pray/Learn series, this program will be preceded by a soup supper at 6 p.m. and a time of reflection at 6:40 p.m. Child care/homework space is available. Come for all or part of the evening. Make reservations for dinner or child care (978-422-6657). All are welcome. Questions? Call the church office at 978-422-6657.
